• I must share a few things about the so-called intelligent and powerful people. I was in B.A. (History Hons.) IInd year #StStephensCollege. I was a student of History of USA, taught by Dr. Vinaysheel Gautam. Many students bunked his classes, but I attended them regularly. My 'tutorials' ('tutes') were very sought after! I put my focus on the History of USA, and completed all 12 tutorials. The final examination was one month away. One Udaibir Saran Das, asked me to give my tutorials to him. Those days there was no computer, no photocopying, and we wrote the tutorials by hand or put a carbon copy for a friend or two.
Lo and behold! I gave my 12 tutorials to Udaibir. He was staying in college residence. The incident is exactly 50 years old, but I haven't forgotten it. The amount of trauma that I underwent, due to my goodness left me stunned. When I asked Udaibir Saran Das to return my tutorials, as I had to study, he point blank refused to return them to me and said that he never took any from me. OMG! I was naive, innocent and non inter-active with co-students. It was like a robbery of my intellectual property from my mind's bank. I pleaded to him, "please return my tutorials". He brushed me off rudely. Rev. W. S. Rajpal was our principal. When I reached home, I was bitterly crying. My father, Jaswant Rai jee asked me as to what had happened? I told him the whole story. Next day, my father and I went to St. Stephen's College and met Rev. W. S. Rajpal and Dr. John Hala. Udaibir Saran Das was summoned by the principal, as he resided in college residence.
The principal asked him to bring my tutorials. He did not deny having my tutorials. Within 10 minutes all 12 tutorials were with me. These brilliant thieves rose by stealing my hard work. Once I got my tutorials back, I was so happy and we came back home. Principal Rev. W. S. Rajpal told me not to take anything seriously and focus on studying.
Needless to say, in the History of #USA I scored more than 80% marks. When I was appointed as a lecturer of History in the University of Delhi, I was asked to teach U.S.A.'s history to the undergraduate students. Those who worked with #IMF #WorldBank and are in Kautilaya School of Public Policy excelled on my intellectual work.
