☆The shining star of Indian politics, Prime Minister of India, Bharat-Ratna Rajiv Gandhi is missed by all! I pay my respects to the young, most compelling, dynamic leader with a vision for the future ! 'Dhanu', the LTTE's human-bom blasted Rajiv Gandhi in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. Rajiv was killed in this deceitful, gory bomb blast. I always remember my several personal meetings with P.M. Rajiv Gandhi. He was always positive, smiling, endearing and encouraging towards me! Our thoughts and feelings are with Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Robert Vadra, Myra and Rehan! (There's no politics in this, kindly!). Here is a poem penned by me on Rajiv Gandhi: "Goodbye my friend, my eyes will never dry, after saying these words, when we met, we never thought it would end, betrayed trust, brutal blast of deceit, your body blasted into pieces, you fell asleep smiling, torn apart, bright star in the universe, it's great to have known you, on your visit to the earth, we'll meet again in the end, goodbye my friend!" I will never forget the respect and affection Rajiv Gandhi showered upon me! Rajiv Gandhi served me 'a sandwich with coffee' with his own hands at his 10 Janpath office, which made me delightfully happy! Till date that moment is alive in my mind! Another memory is; that Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi had reached Delhi's Nirman Bhavan to cast their votes. He was accompanied by Captain Satish Sharma aka 'Cappy' and R.K. Dhawan. Rajiv Gandhi drove a newly launched; Maruti 1000, white coloured vehicle. I was officially deputed to do the coverage for Doordarshan news, with cameraman Rajeev Rai. Rajiv Gandhi was popularly expected to become the next Prime Minister of India, after the Congress withdrew it's support from P.M. Chandra Shekhar's government on suspicion of 'spying'.
I was positioned at the door of the Maruti 1000. After he cast his vote, from where Rajiv Gandhi was to enter; our camera was rolling:
Neelam: Rajiv ji, what do you expect from these elections?
Rajiv: The next government will be formed by the Congress party.
Neelam: In the absence of a clear mandate, will you have a coalition government?
Rajiv: The question does not arise, we will form an 'absolute government with 2/3rd majority on our own'. My D.G. Doordarshan News, Harish Avasthi was thrilled by our coverage! "RAJIV GANDHI SAYS CONGRESS WILL FORM THE NEXT GOVERNMENT WITH TWO-THIRD MAJORITY" was the Doordarshan News headlines! The very next day, Rajiv went to Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu where he was assassinated. My interview with Rajiv Gandhi, , was the 'last interview' recorded by any T.V. channel! Recently; Rahul Gandhi paid a tribute to his father: "I am proud to be the son of a true patriot, generous and philanthropic father. As Prime Minister, Rajiv ji led India on the path of progress. A visionary who took many important steps to empower the country. I bow to him with affection and gratitude," Rahul Gandhi tweeted. In this context, the acquittal of Rajiv Gandhi's killers by the Supreme Court of India came as a surprise to all. Irrespective of the political differences, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government's has filed a 'review petition' in the Supreme Court of India, on the release of Rajiv Gandhi's killers, which is a welcome step. Release of India's P.M.'s killers, a constitutional post, is a reprehensible move! The Congress party has also questioned the decision of The Supreme Court of India to release the killers of Rajiv Gandhi! There are some topics that cause me intense pain and then I am unable to put that pain into words!  I am encouraged by fellow journalists to write! I feel so helpless! When nothing happened by writing on these subjects for 30 years, what will happen now? Wasn't Rajiv Gandhi the Prime Minister of India? Rajiv's assassination was a heinous conspiracy, hatched by LTTE, the human-bomb 'Bhanu' pressed the electrical-switch of the bomb, by putting a garland around Rajiv Gandhi's neck, pretending to touch his feet ! The body of Prime Minister of India was ripped and torn to pieces. India and the world was stunned!
The young, 46 years old Prime Minister was brutally murdered! The killers of Rajiv Gandhi have already started showing their true colors as soon as they came out of the jail. Is getting them out of jail is a judicial error or miscalculation? It can be said to be 'a travesty of justice'. When Ms. Margretham Chandrasekhar, who was a minister in Indira Gandhi's government, asked Rajiv Gandhi to come for election campaign in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, the Intelligence Bureau and security agencies feared security threats on Rajiv Gandhi's life from LTTE, but Rajiv did not agree! Manishankar Iyer, P. Chidambaram suggested Rajiv Gandhi to call off his visit to Tamil Nadu but he didn't pay heed to their concerns. G.K. Moopanar, (Gen. Secretary of Congress) Ms. Jayanthi Natarajan, M.P. were all with Rajiv Gandhi. Then how is it that only Rajiv was killed? Ravichandran and Nalini have already started their 'Victim Drama' ( ref. The Hindu) as soon as they were released from jail. Many questions are being raised on the Supreme Court's order to release Rajiv Gandhi's killers from jail. The premature release of the seven convicts in the 'Rajiv Gandhi assassination case' is raising some questions on judicial correctness. The Supreme Court, using the powers conferred by Article 142 of the Constitution, released A.G. Perarivalan in May 2022. The apex court cited the same reasons for the release of other convicts as well. Three of the seven convicts were sentenced to death, but their sentences were commuted to life imprisonment, as their mercy petitions were pending with the President of India for years. Prior to that, Sonia Gandhi had advocated the release of 'the only woman (qua) Nalini' among the convicts as she had given birth to a baby-girl in jail. By the way, it is beyond anyone's comprehension as to why Mrs. Sonia Gandhi showed mercy to her husband's killers? These are dangerous trends! In 2000 DMK government of Tamil Nadu appealed to the Governor to reduce the death sentence of Nalini. But he ignored the applications of three other death-row convicts. When Sonia Gandhi expressed her sympathy for Nalini, there was talk of reducing the sentence of the other three convicts and releasing them. All these convicts were in jail for three decades and some of them have even studied from jail to improve their lives. The Supreme Court should not have been attracted by these arguments. All these convicts were part of a pre-meditated international conspiracy to assassinate the former Prime Minister and it was the Supreme Court itself that found them guilty of murdering a P.M. The Supreme Court itself has passed the order that the convicts who have been sentenced to life imprisonment will have to spend their whole life in jail. 'They will come out of jail only on their death'. The Supreme Court has ignored all these facts! Changed their own decisions? On this issue, mercy applications of some other convicts, who are serving life sentence have also come up before the Supreme Court of India. On the law of parity, even they should be released? Tamil politicians and the media conspired to spread an absolutely false propaganda that 'Perarivalan was innocent' who unwisely bought the 9 volt battery that was used for making the bomb. Aniruddha Mitra's book 'Ninety Days - The True Story of the Hunt for Rajiv Gandhi's Assassination' states that Perarivalan had not only supplied the battery but also prepared the 'bomb-vest' that 'Dhanu' wore to assassinate Rajiv Gandhi.
The Supreme Court also forgot that not only Rajiv Gandhi, 17 other people were also killed in the incident, including eight policemen and seven civilians. The same question must be asked of Tamil politicians who have raised the flag of support for the seven convicts, four of whom are Sri Lankans. At the same time, they forgot the 14 Tamils who were murdered on May 21, 1991. Jayalalithaa had deciminated the 'LTTE' and lashed out at its supporters as well, but later she backed out ! In 2006, she had demanded the immediate hanging of the three killers of Rajiv Gandhi, saying that any delay by C.B.I. would spoil the image of people of Tamil Nadu. In 2009 the Sri Lankan Army annihilated 'LTTE', Prabhakaran was killed along with his family. While it was a question of Tamil pride DMK leaders, including M. K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, demanded reduction of the death sentence of three convicts, to life imprisonment and then raised the demand for the release of all the seven life-imprisoned convicts. The acquittal of these dreaded criminals is a blatant affront to the rule of law. In retrospect it may be said that if a Governor rejects the recommendation, the state government gets the opportunity to publicize the excuse of humiliation of an elected government! Sonia's first gesture towards Nalini, Priyanka's meeting Nalini in jail and Rahul's magnanimity in not creating an atmosphere of hatred towards the killers, actually denied justice to Rajiv Gandhi! Thankfully, the Congress has shown the guts to oppose the wrong sympathy and generosity towards these culprits. Jairam Ramesh, media chief of Congress has said that he is opposing the release of Rajiv Gandhi's killers. The ruling party D.M.K. politicians have projected it as a strength of State's victory for human rights. It's atrocious that in their eyes; the human rights of the Tamils killed along with Rajiv Gandhi do not matter? It is very sad that this savage form of Tamil nationalism has won and the concept of rule of law has weakened. It would be a heinous crime to make these killers heroes. The assassination of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi by foreign, mercenaries will indeed remain a sad chapter in political history of India. P. M. Rajiv Gandhi has been denied justice in his ghastly assassination.
