Internet services were shut down and paramilitary forces swung into action to control the local masses. Yasin Malik had shunned the gun ane separated his life from terrorist organizations. This is the case of 2017. Terrorism was at its peak in Kashmir since 1990. Malik however, is eligible to appeal in the High Court. In five other cases, the court awarded life imprisonment in two and rigorous imprisonment of 10 years each in others. It said that all the sentences would run concurrently. Before the decision, parts of Jammu and Kashmir's capital Srinagar remained closed. Shops and other business establishments also remained closed in some parts of the city. Government forces, including CRPF personnel and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, have been deployed to thwart the public protest. Kashmir now looks like a 'police state'. Its effect will also be in the sensitive areas of the capital. Drones were deployed to keep an eye. No organization had called for a bandh. In the afternoon, civilian protesters clashed with government forces and pelted stones. Government forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesters. During the trial, Malik contested the allegations and said that he was a 'freedom fighter like Mahatma Gandhi'. Al' Jazeera reported that Yasin Malik said, "the terrorism-related allegations against me were fabricated and politically motivated, their organisation", The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front told the court. He told the judge, 'If seeking freedom is a crime, then I am ready to accept this crime and its consequences'. Malik holds a place in the mind and hearts of the common Kashmiri. For this reason they have a lot of support there. A crowd was seen gathering at Malik's Maisuma residence, where women raised slogans in support of Malik. The JKLF was one of the first armed insurgent groups to come into existence in Jammu and Kashmir in the early 90s under Yasin Malik's leadership, supported 'a free Kashmir' and laid down arms in 1994. In 2019, the government arrested Malik and banned the JKLF. When the Government of India is making efforts to bring peace in Kashmir, then it is necessary to meet, talk and to negotiate with the leaders of Kashmir. After removing Section 307, 35-A, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has made a direct connect with the Kashmiri people. It is necessary to meet all the leaders of PAGD (People's Alliance of Gupkar Declaration; which includes; J&K National Conference, J&K People's Democratic Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), J&K Awami National Conference, J& K People's Movement etc. On 4th August 2019, the following leaders met at Gupkar Residence of Dr. Farooq Abdullah (Chairperson), Mehbooba Mufti, Muzzafar Shah, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Abdul Rehman Veeri, Imran Reza Ansari, Abdul Ghani Vakeel, Taj Mohiudin, Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami, Omar Abdullah, Mohamad Akbar Lone, Nasir Aslam Wani, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Uzair Ronga, Suhail Bukhari and others. 'Kashmiriyat, Insaniyat and Jamhuriat', the slogan of P.M. Atal Bihari Vajpayee have gone for a toss. Giving life imprisonment to Yasin Malik will certainly affect the contemporary situation in Kashmir. By the way, now elections will also be held in Kashmir. The work of delimitation has been completed; which has been rejected by all the political parties of Kashmir. Will India's crown always remain in political crisis? Prime Minister Narendra Modi's attention is required on two issues: 1. Keeping communication channels with local leaders in Kashmir 2. The interests of the Kashmiri people, social, economic and political, should be taken care of. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has gained popularity among the public due to his affable nature. Locals participation in terrorist activities has reduced in Kashmir. Most of the violent incidents are happening from across the border. Whether it's Yasin Malik or Bitta Karate, only the courts will decide on their roles in violence. It has been eight years of the Narendra Modi-Amit Shah government, but still there is no hope of peace in Kashmir. The government says that 'all is well'; but the ground reality does not reflect so. Finally, as the 'Daughter of Kashmir', my heart is deeply wounded that even after 75 years of India's independence, we are living in one country, yet differences in hearts with the Kashmir valley. Where saffron and lotus flowers should bloom, there the guns are fired! We should not think of the past but of today and the future. Kashmir is an integral part of India and the people of Kashmir also belong to India. It's time to abandon negative policies. Oh May Kashmir!
