Condemnable and vengeful behavior of Sushant Chakravortty Sport & Physical Education Department of St.Stephen's College
Condemnable conduct of #Sushant_Chakravortty of St. Stephen's College towards the young, College's sports persons!
☆ We know that to a teacher the students are like their own children. I started my career as a Delhi University's Professor of History, after completing my post graduation in History; from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi. I really loved my teachers and they loved me too. I have very fond memories of all my teachers. Rev. W. S. Rajpal, Dr. John Hala, Dr. David Baker, Prof. Randhir Singh, Dr. R.L. Shukla, Dr. R.S. Sharma, Prof. Irfan Habib, Prof. Nurul Hassan, A. Didar Singh 'Pittoo', Prof. R.K. Sharma. I was a studious student. I used to play badminton and Syed Modi was my coach, who was later murdered by his wife's paramour. The thing is that teachers are Gurus. The 'Guru - Shishya Parampara' is fading in modern times. After many years I decided to pen down this post to open my heart's great pain; that many sport's students went through in St. Stephen's College; at the hands of Chakravortty! St. Stephen's College had a wonderful department of Physical Education and Sports. In my time Rev. Raj Kumar looked after the sports department. Sadly enough St. Stephen's College has slided down in position from the number one sports college to ...? It's because of a lot of strictness used on the sport's persons in the college. They have to compete alongside in academics also! Mr. Sushant Chakravortty you must realise that St. Stephens College is not your private property! When you use students to promote the college sports; whether it is basketball, cricket, swimming, cross country, squash, tennis, shooting or any other game, it is basically the students who put in their hard work and not you! You just come and sit in your office. You don't even sweat it out with the students. They are not even given minimum facilities by you. I remember there was no practicing net for the young 🏏 cricket boys of the college. They had to travel in terrible heat to Kashmiri Gate grounds, in bus, with heavy kit bags, to play at the dilapidated field there. This led to dehydration and loss of strength of the students. Don't forget they have to study also. If the students have some requirements they have the right to put a requisition to the sports department. The principal of St. Stephen's College should give enough facilities to the sports persons of St. Stephen's College. The health and long-term interest of students should be kept in mind. Sushant Chakravortty should not be rigid about sports attendance and clerical things like how many sessions were attended at the end of the year. It is the result which matters. Even after 15 years of continuous hurt you caused to young children/ sports person's wounds are raw in their hearts! In the final year of B.A. Sushant Chakravortty denied them their 'sports colours', 'college honours' and sports certificates. He didn't allow them to attend the Sport's Dinner! Aghast!
This is really in very poor taste. All those students with whom you were revengeful have not forgiven you till today because you denied them what was due to them! Principal Dr. Anil Wilson was not even aware of your harassment and dictatorial behavior! You should apologize from the young aspirational students in whose minds you've caused a permanent scar! Not giving the College badges and college certificates, to sports persons is highly condemnable.
Message for Sushant Chakravortty: A true teacher is like a father or a mother. All mistakes are forgiven when the students are leaving the college. They should keep happy memories of the years that are spent in any educational institution. Dr Anil Wilson used to tell me, "life is not about three years in St. Stephen's College; the life actually starts when one moves out of the college!"
#Stephanians have good memories about the Mission College. Students to whom you denied their badges and sports colours, are now young men! They feel terrible at your behaviour; as a dictatorial man who denied them their rightful honours. In any case it's time for you to retire and move out of St. Stephen's College. The students whom you've hurt so deeply have not forgotten this evil act of yours.
Let the sports be in the spirit of the game ! Sushant Chakravortty you don't have a heart of a sportsman !
